Job Description

Ungooroo Aboriginal Corporation is looking for an experienced Speech Therapist to join our clinical team to work with children and adults to assess and treat a range of speech and language disorders.

This role is being offered 1 day per week on either a subcontracting or employee basis.

Although this a non-identified role, we strongly encourage Aboriginal people to apply.

This role is supported by the Australian Government’s Outreach programs, administered by RDN in NSW and the ACT, which aim to increase access to health services for rural communities and Aboriginal people. Working in health outreach services is a very rewarding and challenging experience for health outreach practitioners. In addition, participating Health Professionals may receive funding for costs associated with the delivery of outreach services through the Outreach program.

About the role:

  • Assessment and intervention of children with receptive and expressive language delays and disorders, speech sound disorders and complex disability
  • Providing early intervention to babies and children
  • Assessment and management of dysphagia
  • Assessment and management of children with difficulties with phonological awareness and literacy
  • Liaison with parents and schools to implement programs
  • Assessment and intervention for clients with dysarthria, apraxia
  • Administering therapy for rehabilitation of patients with communication problems caused by disabilities or hearing loss
  • Maintain all patient records and notes in accordance with documentation requirements
  • Use evidence-based, problem-solving approach to clinical care and service development

Qualifications & experience:

  • Tertiary qualification in Speech Therapy and Certified as a Practising Member of Speech Pathology Australia.
  • Professional indemnity insurance
  • Experience working with Aboriginal people
  • Experience working as a Speech Therapist in a community setting
  • Current Drivers Licence
  • Eligible for Medicare Provider Number
